Redland City Council is committed to developing a public art collection with high-quality public artworks developed through national best practice.

Public art contributes to the cultural life of a community, revitalises centres and helps to foster a sense of place. Redland City Council’s Public Art Program includes permanent sculptures, temporary public art projects, murals and art walks.

Public art is defined as artworks and designed landscape elements occurring on public land, but may also include architectural features of buildings and temporary art installations.

Public artworks are to be seen and experienced by the community within the everyday environment, decorating public buildings, footpaths, foreshore areas, parks, malls and busy streets.

Public artworks installed across Redland City represent collaboration between the community, artists, architects and Redland City Council to plan, design and create public artworks. The poetics of art, environment and design bring a sense of place to the public realm to create a meaningful expression of the character of the community and its people.
