In her exhibition Perceive/Conceive artist Leigh Schoenheimer plays with ideas of visual representation and interpration. Drawing on the idea that many audiences continue to be confounded by abstraction and the conceptual approaches that have since followed, Schoenheimer sets out to demonstrate the difference between ‘seeing’ and ‘knowing’ a subject. Through her storyboard format, Schoenheimer’s work offers a visual explanation for the alternative logic of abstraction and post-modern approaches to art making. Each artwork is, in effect, a short lesson on the evolution of Modernism.
