Yurara Art Society is the Redland Coast’s largest local art group with around 110 active members. This dynamic and enthusiastic group regularly organise themed exhibitions for their members that respond to the Redlands and other broader concepts, and have exhibited at RAG in previous years.
Yurara Art Society proposes to display a curated group of new works that respond broadly to sounds familiar to the Redlands. The group have been asked to consider the unique sonic qualities of their local surroundings and consider ways to translate these sounds into their artworks. These sounds may include water lapping in the bay, noisy boat engines, and local fauna among other encounters. To date, this significant local art group has focused on producing mostly figurative works, and this concept poses an opportunity for artists to extend their practices by considering their surroundings in an abstract sense, responding with wall-based and three dimensional works.
