Connected by Thread is an exhibition by SmartArts Creative Textile Group celebrating twenty years of strong friendships, sharing values and interests, caring and supporting one another and exploring and learning all things related to textiles. The exhibition of our art works is an excellent way to celebrate our twentieth anniversary, giving members the opportunity to display their talents to the wider community and give due recognition to textiles as an art form, demonstrating the changing role of textiles in art.

Their members use a wide range of techniques from traditional and creative methods of hand and machine embroidery along with beading, felting, printing, dyeing, mixed media and image/photo transfer methods on fabric and paper. These techniques are presented in many different ways including wall hangings, 3D pieces and books.

It is their belief that the theme not only describes the connection of lives and creative works within the group, but connections also to our forebears and the younger generation through skills passed down, or gifts created and given. The use of recycled and up cycled fabrics also connects the old and the new by thread.

Their aim is to entice, captivate and entertain the viewer, while inspiring and encouraging new audiences.
