View From the Edge’ by Brisbane artist Paula Irene Payne, presents paintings that respond to environmental themes and personal narratives. Payne’s paintings draw from a litany of memories including long voyages across the sea from Australia to England, and coastal adventures in and around Redlands Coast. Works in the exhibition stem from an interest in littoral zones – the transitional part of the sea that meets the shore – and its inhabitants. The exhibition draws from memories of weekends “spent kayaking around the edges of littoral zones observing the seasons and tides of the water’s edge and the creatures and plants that lived there.” Other works in this exhibition explore the shared expansiveness of the ocean and the night sky.
