In Blue Stitch, Sharon Jewell draws upon images and thoughts that have arisen randomly over time, and outside the more deliberate and purposeful concerns of a life. She transforms sketches and notations, assigning them a more thoughtful duration through the methodical process of hand stitching. The collection embraces the disjunctive workings of the imagination, in a curious host of tender, funny and mysterious moments, united in a consistent shade of pen-ink blue. The works find their own ways toward meaning, as they loosely reference each other, and invoke the viewer’s imagination to make what they will of the tenuous narratives.
